Abstract

DELFIN-ORTEGA, Odette V.  and  LUCAS AVILES, José Alberto. Analysis of the North American Maritime Logistics 2010-2018. A Study of Efficiency and Productivity Measured through Malmquist Index. Anál. econ. [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.96, pp.79-97.  Epub Oct 31, 2022. ISSN 2448-6655.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/azc/dcsh/ae/2022v37n96/delfin.

The objective of this research is to calculate the level of efficiency and productivity of the main seaports in North America in 2010-2018. The methodology used in the first stage is Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) in which the technical efficiency is calculated, later in a second stage the change in productivity is obtained by instrumenting the Malmquist Index, which is disaggregated into two factors: "change technical” (Frontier-Shift) and the “efficiency change” (Catch-Up). The results show that on average it was the port of Los Angeles that had the highest growth in productivity, however, the values obtained in general indicate the lack of port policies for the terminals to better optimize their resources and encourage port development.

Keywords : Malmquist Index; Efficiency; North America ports.
