Abstract

OBEDIENTE SOSA, Enrique. On the venezuelan word arrochelado. Nueva rev. filol. hisp. [online]. 2019, vol.67, n.2, pp.579-593.  Epub July 26, 2019. ISSN 2448-6558.  https://doi.org/10.24201/nrfh.v67i2.3530.

The present note reflects on the term arrochelado, contributing information or details about its origin and, in particular, about the dating of its different meanings. The different sense that the term has acquired over time will be presented as well as the diatopic extension of the word. In order to achieve this, we will begin by resuming what has already been masterfully expounded by the great philologist Ángel Rosenblat, and then expand on this offering new documentary sources and digital corpora which have subsequently enriched our knowledge of the Spanish lexicon in its different varieties.

Keywords : lexicography; venezuelanisms; arrochelado; rochela; colonial documentation.
