Abstract

GONZALBO AIZPURU, Pilar. What Should We Do with Pedro Ciprés? Approximations to a Methodology of Everyday Life. Hist. mex. [online]. 2018, vol.68, n.2, pp.471-507. ISSN 2448-6531.  https://doi.org/10.24201/hm.v68i2.3744.

This article deals with the case of a mulatto student who managed to graduate from the Royal University’s Faculty of Medicine in the 17th Century, despite the open opposition of some of his fellow students, who objected to what they saw as the inferior character of their classmate. Independently of the interest of this affair, the documents that were presented to the authorities at the time serve as a practical example of the application of a basic methodology for searching for documents, analyzing situations, identifying protagonists and applying the proper concepts and criteria to an issue.

Keywords : Mexico; Pedro Ciprés; 17th Century; Everyday Life; Medicine.
