Abstract

MESRI HASHEMI-DILMAGHANI, Parastoo Anita. Yoemem cargo systems. An. antropol. [online]. 2020, vol.54, n.2, pp.45-58.  Epub Nov 29, 2021. ISSN 2448-6221.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iia.24486221e.2020.2.70221.

This article presents several fundamental characteristics of the Yoemem (Yaqui) cargo systems. This analysis reveals significant differences with the existing cargo systems models in Mexican anthropology and which were based on forms of government of communities in the center and south of the country. The Yaqui cargo systems-the basis of their government structure-are an element of their culture that permits their survival as a people with their own values. Due to the fact that the dominant conception in legal anthropology in Mexico is based on the values, principles, and legal systems of the center and south, it is relevant to explore the reality of the northwest region of the country and thus present original and innovative contributions to existing knowledge.

Keywords : Mexico; Yaqui Tribe; northwest region; cargo systems; indigenous peoples rights; legal anthropology.
