Abstract

NAVA-BRINGAS, M. E.; PINAR-ALVAREZ, M. A.  and  WOJTAROWSKI-LEAL, A.. Sustainability policy in Mexican universities. Inter disciplina [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.31, pp.227-246.  Epub Nov 10, 2023. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2023.31.86086.

Universities should generate the ability to reflect and understand the consequences of the current development model in their students, encouraging them to become professionals who propose alternative models with a sustainable approach. However, reluctance is observed in the incorporation of environmental themes in their educational policies, plans and programs of study. The objectives of the research are to perform a bi- bliometric analysis of documents related to the concepts sustainability and educational policy, and to compare the sustainability policies of three Mexican universities with the best scores in the Green Metric World University Ranking (2021), in comparison with the current policy of the Universidad Veracruzana. In terms of the methodological approach, the Dimensions database and the VOSviewer program were used for the bibliometric analysis; the comparison of policies was carried out with the content analysis method. Results of the bibliometric analysis reveal a scarcity of documented works for Mexico: of 16 records, five are works by Mexican authors and 11 are collaborations with Mexicans, in a total of 2,562 records at international level. The content analysis shows the diversity among the analyzed documents and the absence of steps that generate regulations, planning and actions. In conclusion, there is an urgent need to document the inclusion of sustainability in educational policies and to carry out diagnostics that lay the foundations for change in Mexican higher education institutions.

Keywords : bibliometric analysis; educational policy; higher education institutions; sustainability.
