The ways in which changes in communications have been assimilated in Cuba from the use of the Internet and wireless networks as communication and entertainment platforms consumption represent a very particular appropriation of technologies. This is confirmed by “el paquete” (the package), the most popular alternative communication product on the island, whose offline circulation is an adaptation to the island’s disconnected context and an option for informal consumption as opposed to state programming. This article proposes a review of the production of knowledge regarding the circulation of content through informal channels, in order to place the Cuban case in a line of study that relates technological advances to the proliferation of practices of appropriation of products and content associated with human networks. Based on the bibliographical review and the contextual analysis, the repercussions of “el paquete” in the context of the Cuban public are also reflected on.
