Abstract

CASTILLO RAMIREZ, Guillermo. International migrations from Chiapas and territorial changes in rural localities. Inter disciplina [online]. 2019, vol.7, n.18, pp.21-38.  Epub Dec 11, 2020. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2019.18.68452.

In the context of the economic crisis in rural areas of the southeastern Mexico in the change of century (1990-2010), this paper argues that the process of international migration of peasants, as phenomena of social change and cross-border geographical mobility, implicated, for the members and residents of indian-peasant communities of origin, a number of new practical-material and symbolic-cultural utilizations of the territory, as well as a complex social and political dynamics of reconfiguring its sense of community. To carry out this work and from the perspective of the disciplinary articulation between human geography and social anthropology, it was required a qualitative strategy that was based on the generation and use of oral testimonies, as well as the revision and consultation of historical documents, ethnographic data and field trips.

Keywords : migration; territory; peasants; rural settlements; community.
