Abstract

This article problematizes the construction of the gay and trans political subject in twenty years of decriminalization of homosexuality in Ecuador (1997-2017). For this, the author reviews the implications of the transit of the acronym GLBTI to the term “sex/generic diversities”; and analyzes this transition in the implications of two discursivities that have named sex/gender diversities in the Andean country in the last two decades: legal discursivity, and aesthetic/playful discursivity. The analysis ends with an interpretation of an ethnography made in two places of gay leisure in Quito.

Throughout his analysis, the author positions feminism, and more specifically autonomous feminism, as one of the theoretical/political currents that will substantially affect the consolidation of a critical and non-assimilationist current within the sex/generic diversities.

Likewise, he proposes an analytical journey of these years of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Ecuador, critically recovering the leadership of the same sex/gender diverse populations, whose political emergence in these twenty years has attracted the political interest of different progressive organizations, as well as of the academy and the local contemporary art scene.
