Abstract

DIAZ GARCIA, Alicia M.  and  FELIPE GOMEZ, Ariel M.. Las investigaciones en el área de la bionanotecnología en Cuba. Mundo nano [online]. 2017, vol.10, n.19, pp.37-71.  Epub Aug 21, 2020. ISSN 2448-5691.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485691e.2017.19.62392.

Research activities in the field of bionanotechnologies have aroused interest in the real development of biotechnologies in Cuba. Encouraged by their strong momentum in the national economy, they have pushed the academic sector into areas such as bionanomaterials, drug delivery systems and bionanosensors, with encouraging results. We will try to present tightly in this work, a compilation of the themes presented at international events in Cuba with a vision of recent progress within the country. We have based our compilation on fundamentally, in the international seminars of nanosciences and nanotechnologies, the international congresses of the Cuban Society of Chemistry, the International Conferences “New Materials in the Age of Convergence” and the recent Workshops of the Network MADIMED (materials, devices and medications). In order to organize the reported research, we have grouped them by the profile of their content in: bionanomaterials (BIONM) and (TE-tissue engineering); drug delivery systems (DDS); bionanosensors and repairers.

Bionanomaterials showed results with tissue regeneration products, bone cements, and targeted release of proteins. In the area of controlled drug release, different platforms based on novel technologies such as FSC and pegylation are showed, as well as ferromagnetic and metallic nanoparticles where the quantity and quality of papers are attractive. Results of interest are showed too, in the detection of biomarkers and recognized diseases of importance for health.

Keywords : Cuba; bionanotechnology; bionanomaterials; drug delivery; tissue engineering; bionanosensors; nanoremediation.
