Abstract

This article makes a brief presentation of the founding of the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UNAM), its departmental academic organization, the organization of research by areas and the creation of the professor-researcher figure. In addition, the activities of research, teaching and the culture diffusion of the research group attached to the Materials Chemistry Area of the Department of Basic Sciences, CBI Division of UAM-A, are described. This group has carried out its research activities in catalysis for several years and in nanoscience and technology in the last five years. Also mentioned are the projects that are carried out in the area, the infrastructure and its laboratories, the collaborations and the academic performance of the researchers in the field of teaching and the human resources training in the bachelors of chemical and environmental engineering; as well as in the Postgraduate of Sciences and Engineering of Materials, Masters and Doctors degree (belonging to the National Postgraduate Program of Quality of the National Council of Science and Technology. Spanish acronym: PNPC-CONACyT). Achievements and future prospects are also mentioned.
