Abstract

Objective:

Fishing situation of is analyzed in one of the most emblematic continental regions of Mexico, Lake Pátzcuaro.

Methodology:

Based on a review of the bibliography, the analysis of the information from the speeches of an official forum in the region, and the experience in an organized workshop on fishing resources, the situation and perspectives of this activity are analyzed in the local and regional context.

Results:

This work highlights the importance of making fishing and fishermen visible as a current and viable productive activity, as well as the contribution of fishing resources as foods of high nutritional value.

Limitations:

Due to the size of the document, the work collected in the field from more actors was not included.

Conclusions:

Food security and the local economy become vulnerable to a lake threatened by its socio-environmental situation, where the native fish have diminished, but the importance of the fishing resources continues due to its ease of access and deep-rooted consumption. Among some proposals, it presents itself as a strategy for work the articulation from different sectors and economic viability so that the activity could be revalued.
