Abstract
RAMOS, Gimena; ELORZA, María Eugenia and PEREZ, Stella Maris. Local food policies in Argentina: a case study. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.57, e211091. Epub Mar 21, 2022. ISSN 2395-9169. https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v31i57.1091.
Objective:
To evaluate a food module delivery program in the city of Bahía Blanca (Bs. As.) during the first half of 2018.
Methodology:
Based on data from the Office of Social Statistics, we characterize the beneficiary population, we analyze the evolution of the modules delivered and of beneficiaries and we evaluated the coverage of the program in relation to the food need.
Results:
It was evidenced that the beneficiary population has the same characteristics as the urban food insecure households in Argentina. The demand behaved according to economic conditions and represented only a proportion of the local vulnerable population.
Limitations:
We didn´t measured the food insecurity of the population under study. Both of the results, related to the scope of the program and targeting, were estimated, and evaluated. Both of them from a sample of the population under the program.
Conclusions:
Direct assistance through the delivery of food modules implies a setback in food and social policies, in the sense of limiting autonomy and decision-making of the beneficiaries. Although progress has been made towards new forms of assistance through monetary transfers, the delivery of food constitutes a policy that continues to be carried out, especially in times of socio-economic or health crisis.
