Abstract

HERNANDEZ DE LA CRUZ, Luis Alberto. Cultural and economic transformations in rural territories. Effects of the clothing maquila in the Tehuacán Valley: A socio-territorial analysis. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.52. ISSN 2395-9169.  https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v28i52.568.

Objective: Analyze, from a socioterritorial perspective, the economic and cultural transformations that have occurred in some rural municipalities of the Tehuacan Valley since the arrival of the maquila de confección. Methodology: Case study as an articulating axis and use various qualitatives techniques such as interview and observation, we seek to understand the changes in these territories from the point of view of its inhabitants. Results: One of the contributions of this article is to emphasize the importance of understanding the rural as a complex socioterritorial system, constituted by a material dimension but also by symbolic elements. We focus especially on the modifications of cultural and economic patterns which directly affect the social dynamics of these territories, but at the same time generate certain resistance to this type of transformation, for example the rescue of the original languages. Limitations: Consists in the insufficient representativeness of the case analysis. Conclusions: These changes are made within the framework of a new productive and labor restructuring, which continues to affect these territories and their inhabitants.
