CORTEZ SOTO, Sara Nohemí and MORENO TREVINO, Jorge Omar. Initial education and students' abilities: an analysis of marginal contributions over lower secondary education. Rev. econ. [online]. 2023, vol.40, n.101, pp.1-29. Epub Jan 29, 2024. ISSN 2395-8715. https://doi.org/10.33937/reveco.2023.353.
This paper analyzes the contribution of attending preschool education as one of the determinants of academic performance in mathematics of students in secondary school, implementing different methods to measure the econometric treatment effects. We use PISA (2018) datasets and estimate a series of models to correct the selection bias and identify the contribution of preschool education to the quality of learning. This research determines the contribution of several context variables to the difference between students' educational performance with and without preschool education. Moreover, this research presents the importance of preschool education as public policy in the academic performance of students in Mexico to potentialize education and significantly contribute to the country's economic growth.
