Abstract

AMAO CENICEROS, Melina. New forms of street art: an approach from the Field theory. Iztapalapa. Rev. cienc. soc. humanid. [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.82, pp.141-172. ISSN 2007-9176.  https://doi.org/10.28928/revistaiztapalapa/822017/aot1/amaocenicerosm.

The aim of this paper is to analyze street art as a social system based on the Bourdieu's field theory and to understand the forms of participation that the producers of murals have in the urban graphic intervention, in its authorized dimension. Through interviews with muralists in Tijuana, material and symbolic disputes were identified, configuring new forms of urban intervention that produce counter-meanings to previous forms of intervention, which defies the rules of street art in its Old School significance.

Keywords : street art; field theory; city; street mural; Tijuana.
