Abstract

CANDIA, José Miguel. Initiative S. 744. From electoral emergencies to strategic responses. Iztapalapa. Rev. cienc. soc. humanid. [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.75, pp.13-28.  Epub Oct 22, 2019. ISSN 2007-9176.  https://doi.org/10.28928/ri/752013/atc1/candiajm.

The migration has been a difficult subject in the Mexico-United States bilateral agenda. In June 2013, the US Senate approved Initiative S. 744, which seeks to avoid old paradigms and prejudices and to concentrate in fundamental aspects. However, in the first two months of 2014, the Republican Party conservative offensive worsened, refuting some of the core statements of the initiative. There are elements that lead us to believe that the republican right wing will impose its majority in the House of Representatives and the bipartisan measure of the Senate will be suspended.

Keywords : temporary work; undocumented migration; national security; terrorism and drug trafficking; legalization and citizenship.
