Abstract

GARCIA-GONZALEZ, Cristina Yhoselin; MORENO-RESENDEZ, Alejandro; FIGUEROA-VIRAMONTES, Uriel  and  REYES-CARRILLO, José Luis. Accumulation of heavy metals in irrigated alfalfa with wastewater from the textile industry. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2020, vol.7, n.2, e2437.  Epub Dec 22, 2020. Treated Textile Effluent (TTE) has potential use as irrigation water. The objective was to evaluate the effect of a TTE on the accumulation of heavy metals in alfalfa. TTE diluted in distilled water was used in different concentrations. Distilled water and well water for agricultural use, were used as controls. Germination and accumulation of Cd2+, Pb2+ and Ni2+ in plant and soil were evaluated in a completely randomized design. It was found that the undiluted TTE showed no inhibition on germination. Regarding the absorption of heavy metals, the TTE did not generate accumulation in the plant tissue or in the soil in relation to the control one. This type of effluent can be considered an alternative for the use of irrigation of the alfalfa crop.

Keywords : Foliar growth; Medicago sativa; residual effluents.
