From the sociocultural approach of emotions, this study examines how forced internal displacement, caused by extreme violence and insecurity, is continually traversed, not only by the individual dimension with its psychological implications, but by emotional processes with sociopolitical components, which must be acknowledged. The analysis highlights the importance of the emotional life of the displaced subjects, as a fundamental social and political component, at taking the painful decision to leave their homes. From files of the Comisión Mexicana de Defensa y Promoción de los Derechos Humanos, A.C., this article analyzes the socio-emotional processes of the forced internal displacement of a family of more than 60 members, displaced in 2013 in the state of Chihuahua, after having been victims of robbery, extortion, kidnapping and the murder of three of its members. The aim of the study is to contribute to the visibility of the emotional dimension of forced displacement, by recognizing, not only, the traumatic implications -on personal level-, but also, the political function of the emotions of the displaced subjects, to be taken in consideration in the repair and restitution of harm.
