Abstract

DAVILA FIGUEROA, Ruth A.. La doble función ideológica de la narrativa alterna de La forma del agua. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.28, 00007.  Epub Feb 21, 2022. ISSN 2007-8110.

It is argued that the multi-award-winning film of 2017, The Shape of Water, fulfills a double ideological function. On the one hand, it constructs an alternate narrative in which the Others are protagonists and historical subjects, and this would be a positive way of representing otherness. However, on the other hand, it rejects and subverts political action by reducing that otherness to the order of identity and culture and thus denying all inequality and domination by class or economic condition.

Keywords : Ideology; cultural product; discourse; The shape of water; cinema.
