Abstract

MARTIN-PALOMO, María Teresa  and  MUNOZ TERRON, José María. Emociones en el espacio público: Acciones para enfrentar la violencia de género. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2015, vol.9, n.18, pp.187-228. ISSN 2007-8110.

Gender violence, especially that which occurs within intimate relationships, presents a challenge for researchers who study society and culture, as it is difficult to find answers to the following question: What happens in the late modern world, in the context of a progression in egalitarian gender relations, that this so-called "social blight"continues to maintain its rawness and questioning experts, politicians and citizens on what to do to overcome it effectively? In this paper, we propose thinking of violence in a broad perspective that would increase the understanding of the phenomenon and, consequently, contribute to the design of public policies and all types of awareness programs. Using the wide input from the new conceptual framework developed by gender studies, feminist theory and sociology of emotions, this text contemplates the potential of certain artistic performances in order to better understand gender violence. Following the work of Beth Moyses, we present a proposal for the analysis of the phenomenon of violence within intimate relationships, in which the dialogue of vulnerability and agency occurs.

Keywords : Violence; Gender; Artistic performance; Emotions; Morality; Vulnerability; Corporality.
