Abstract

HEAU LAMBERT, Catherine. Reconstruction of a touristic territory through a cultural bricolage. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.16, pp.75-98. ISSN 2007-8110.

Through an ethnography of Huatulco's tourist center, this text analyzes the way in which groups of migrants, that come from very different places, have managed to construct new territories - as "an integrated experience of the space" (Haesbaert) - and, in consequence, new collective identities. It talks about the November 20 County, also known as The Cruise, where hundreds of families have converged and have settled themselves in lots assigned by Fonatur (National Fund for Tourism), literally constructing a new territoriality, in the rigorous sense that cultural geography assigns to this term. The text analyzes the political and symbolic aspects that enabled this appropriation of a new space on the part of migrants dedicated the tourist services, generating a new, strongly integrated provincial identity, following traditional models, in contraposition with the simple agglomerates of great numbers of peoples.

Keywords : territory; invention of tradition; cultural do-it-yourself; migrant identity.
