Abstract

Based on the theory of the social representations the author identifies the central core of the political theory of liberal democracy referring to the conception of monocultural citizenship that it implies. He makes some considerations regarding its limits when confronting the presence of ethnic particularities, and conceives as a dilemma the need to elaborate consistent and effective political strategies with the intention of constructing a multicultural democracy and citizenship in Latin America.
