One of the current problems in Mexico is the migratory flow towards the north (Mexican and North American). And yet there is also a large migration toward the central region of the country, particularly to the outskirts of Mexico City. The article analyzes the impact of this migration on the construction of roots and thus new identities as well as on the subjective perception of space in the city of Ecatepec, State of Mexico, located to the northeast of the capital. The study compiles the results of an empirical investigation about these problems undertaken among the migrants and the original population of the region.
