Abstract

FOSSAERT, Robert. Las fronteras de los Estados Unidos en el siglo XXI. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2007, vol.2, n.3, pp.9-16. ISSN 2007-8110.

The North-American frontiers are not like the European. In Europe the country borders and the inner borders (regions, provinces, villages) result from a dense and thick historical process of continuous fightings for centuries. The North-American limits, on the contrary, are recent and tenuous, with less historical background. The inner borders within the states were outlined from afar by the Congress following meridians and parallels, whereas the Mexican borderline was imposed as result of invasion and war, according to the progress of a pioneer front towards a mobile Far West. After the Second World War, the liberation of Europe by the American armies and the formation of a vast system of military, economical and commercial alliances contributed to the globalization of a kind of new American Far West which includes Europe and, nowadays, the whole world.
