Abstract

PAULIN LARRACOECHEA, José Jaime  and  CARRILLO PACHECO, Marco Antonio. Environmental Leadership Styles in Auto Parts Industry in Queretaro. Entreciencias: diálogos soc. conoc. [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.23, e2379801.  Epub Feb 21, 2022. ISSN 2007-8064.  https://doi.org/10.22201/enesl.20078064e.2021.23.79801.

Purpose:

To identify senior management environmental leadership styles that emerge from the Auto Parts Industry in Queretaro (México) based on the knowledge and experience of the environmental representatives and their collaborators in plants established in the aforementioned state.

Design Methodology:

It is a qualitative, cross-sectional study with an explanatory scope where the configurationism methodology was used, outlined from the sociology of work point of view. A semi-structured in-depth interview was designed and applied to twelve qualified interviewees.

Results:

Results yield three environmental leadership styles (supportive, indifferent, and inconsistent) seen in Queretaro´s autoparts sector, which are different from the transformational conventional classification theory.

Research Limits:

1) There is a need of visiting a greater number of facilities with different industrial activities; 2) The field work was performed two years prior to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which seriously affected the production chains of the automotive industry at state, regional, and global levels. Therefore, its potential impact to environmental leadership styles should be studied later.

Findings:

The environmental leadership style exerted by senior management is a fundamental element within the set of relationships that affect environmental management and the work performed by autoparts companies’ environmental representatives.

Keywords : environmental leadership; leadership style; environmental management; automotive industry; auto parts.
