Abstract

FUENTE-HERNANDEZ, Javier de la et al. A new model of higher education: creation, implementation and results, ENES-León, UNAM. Entreciencias: diálogos soc. conoc. [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.23, e2379250.  Epub Feb 21, 2022. ISSN 2007-8064.  https://doi.org/10.22201/enesl.20078064e.2021.23.79250.

Purpose:

To describe, through the vision of the founder and the perspective of the students, the management process of a new educational model that has been followed by the National School of Higher Studies in Leon (ENES Leon), UNAM a higher education institution founded in 2011.

Methodological design:

Evaluative research was conducted in a real scenario that applied Stufflebeam’s Evaluation Model in order to know the situation of the context, inputs, process, and product (CIPP) of innovation with two types of informants. Techniques such as the semi-structured interview and scripts for the focus groups were used; the instruments were validated with Aiken's V coefficient and expert judgment.

Results:

Innovation is evidenced in the creation of some pioneering degrees at UNAM and in Mexico. Additionally, the following were found: The importance of a political-academic leadership that promoted the transformative culture of the new Model, the incorporation of innovative teaching practices with a high impact on social commitment, the application of interdiscipline and multidiscipline, and the generation of university identity.

Research limitations:

Derived from the recent creation of the school it was not possible to know the effect on the training of graduates or determine if they have become agents of change.

Findings:

Evidence of the implementation of a new higher education Model in Mexico is found.
