Abstract

ZAMORANO-GONZALEZ, Benito et al. Noise pollution and road traffic in the Mexican border. Entreciencias: diálogos soc. conoc. [online]. 2019, vol.7, n.19, pp.27-35.  Epub June 11, 2020. ISSN 2007-8064.  https://doi.org/10.22201/enesl.20078064e.2018.19.67506.

Purpose:

To determine the relationship between the noise level of the main road intersections and the number of vehicles that circulate through them.

Methodology:

A non-invasive electronic vehicle gauge was used in one week periods; evaluation of noise level in daily intervals during a complete week, using type I sound level meters.

Results:

Annual average daily traffic was 2739 units; noise level estimation was 77.6 dB for 12 hour periods; 98.5 dB was the maximum noise level and the minimum noise level was 58.3 dB.

Limitations:

Field work was conducted in a period of less than a year.

Findings:

Results show that noise levels exceed the reference of 65 decibels mentioned by the World Health Organization; as a consequence, the city has pollution due to the noise derived from vehicular traffic.

Keywords : Pollution; noise; traffic; sound.
