Autism is a psychological disorder characterized by a person's intense concentration on their own inner world and the progressive loss of contact with external reality. It is a word that refers to a wide variety of developmental disorders that some people suffer from birth or develop in the first years of life; a person who suffers from conditions that are included within this spectrum has autism spectrum disorder and will last until throughout its entire life cycle. The most recent data kept by the United States Center for Disease Control reveals that 1 in 68 children is diagnosed with some type of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
