Abstract
CORONADO-BLANCO, Juana María et al. Agathidinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) from Mexico, including new records. CienciaUAT [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.1, pp.6-21. ISSN 2007-7858.
Agathidines form a group of parasitoid wasps attacking larvae of Lepidoptera. Some species of this subfamily have been used successfully in biological control of agricultural pests. The objective of this work is to provide a current list of the species of Agathidinae from Mexico, and to report new records for the country and some states. Four academic stays in California, United States were carried out in order to study Mexican material. Moreover, material deposited in the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) and Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) was also considered for this work. Additionally, the literature that included at least one species in the country was reviewed. Two species, Agathis gibbosa (Say) and Pneumagathis spiracularis (Muesebeck) are recorded from Mexico for the first time. Until December 2015, 51 genera and 1 177 species were known in the world fauna, and 24 genera and 127 species occur in Mexico. Not all Agathidinae material deposited in several Mexican collec tions has been identified yet. Therefore, more genera and species of this subfamily are expected.
