Abstract

GUERRERO GONZALEZ, Silvana. Individual narratives versus co-constructed narratives: analysis of surface differences. Cuad. Lingüíst. Col. Méx. [online]. 2019, vol.6, n.1, e93.  Epub Feb 18, 2020. ISSN 2007-736X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/clecm.v6i1.93.

This investigation compares the surface differences in the construction and co-construction of narratives of personal experience, in relation to the factors of sex and socioeconomic group in speakers of Santiago, Chile. From a sample of 90 narratives, firstly the orientation resources and the lexical resources of evaluation employed in the construction of the individual narratives of personal experience are compared to the co-constructed narratives and, then, the sensitivity to variation of such resources are studied when associated to sex and socioeconomic group variables. The results state that there is variation in the use of lexical resources of evaluation; it is verified that the resources that are statistically significant data correspond to the forms of reported speech -conventional direct speech, narrative indirect discourse and direct free-, resources of negative relevance and distant topics that allude to emotional states. In addition, it is concluded that the type of narrative -individual or conversational- and the socioeconomic group factor are the variables associated with the use of the surface resources analyzed in this investigation.

Keywords : variationist sociolinguistics; interactional sociolinguistics; narratives of personal experience; orientation resources; evaluative resources.
