Abstract

This paper analyze tornado occurrence effects on August 6, 2014 in the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, and seeks to contribute for understanding this type of disastrous consequences by tornadoes in this area. A theoretical approach on Social Vulnerability was used in order to analyze destructive forces associated to these tornadoes within the affected area, as well as population susceptibilities to damage observed. The study reveals a high vulnerability associated with the lack of a preventive public policy to protect citizenry.
