Abstract

PADILLA GAMEZ, Nélida  and  PEREZ BAUTISTA, Yuma Yoaly. Evaluation of an Empowerment and Sexual Health Workshop for Young University Students. Psicumex [online]. 2023, vol.13, e539.  Epub Feb 26, 2024. ISSN 2007-5936.  https://doi.org/10.36793/psicumex.v13i1.539.

Sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies are a current problem among our nation's adolescent population. Although a variety of information and programs exist to prevent them, they are not tailored to their characteristics and current needs. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the impact of an empowerment workshop as a key tool for preventing sexual health-related problems among college students, using four Solomon groups. Forty-four college students with an average age of 19 participated in the study. The variables of interest were perceptions of vulnerability, empowerment, sexual behavior, and decision-making. Results suggest that for three variables, pre-study assessment had important effects on receptivity to the content and that effects were observed post-study. The data are discussed because of the limitations and relevance of working with these variables in prevention programs.

Keywords : empowerment; sexual health; youths; sexual behavior; vulnerability perception.
