Abstract

DELFIN-ORTEGA, Odette V.; NAVARRO-CHAVEZ, César Lenin  and  CERVANTES ALVAREZ, Samara Paola. Productivity of the Food and Beverage Industry in APEC Economies, 1998-2016: a Study using Panel Data. Méx.cuenca pac [online]. 2023, vol.12, n.35, pp.79-109.  Epub Nov 13, 2023. ISSN 2007-5308.  https://doi.org/10.32870/mycp.v12i35.815.

The objective of this paper is to identify the main factors that determined the labor productivity of the food and beverage industry in 8 economies of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) in the period 1998-2016. An econometric panel data model is used and dynamic least squares DOLS and fully modified least squares FMOLS methods are developed. 8 of the 21 economies that make up APEC are considered. The results obtained show that remuneration for work, capital and technological development are the variables that determined the productivity of the food and beverage branch of the manufacturing industry in the APEC economies during the period 1998-2016. It is the remuneration for work variable that had the greatest incidence on productivity, both in the DOLS model and in the FMOLS.

Keywords : APEC; food and beverage industry; productivity; labor; capital; technological development.
