GONZALEZ-ARGOTE, Javier; GARCIA-RIVERO, Alexis Alejandro  and  DORTA-CONTRERAS, Alberto Juan. Student's publication in cuban medical journals 1995-2014. First stage. Investigación educ. médica [online]. 2016, vol.5, n.19, pp.155-163. ISSN 2007-5057.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.riem.2016.01.023.

Introduction

There is currently great interest, at national and international level, in the development of research skills by students in the medical sciences.

Aim

To describe the scientific production of medical sciences students in Cuban journals.

Method

Bibliometric study. Articles from 30 Cuban medical journals in the period from 1995 to January 2015 were analysed to determine the student contribution.

Results and discussion

A total of 17,040 articles were found in Cuban medical journals, of which only 2.26% was student contribution, mainly as co-authors and in original articles. The journal with more articles was MediCiego (154 articles), and there were 9 journal with no articles with student participation. None of the articles had authors that belonged to two or more centres or different countries.

Conclusions

The scientific production of medical sciences students is low, and there is no collaboration between students of different universities.
