Abstract

HAMUI-SUTTON, Alicia  and  VARELA-RUIZ, Margarita. Focus groups technique. Investigación educ. médica [online]. 2013, vol.2, n.5, pp.55-60. ISSN 2007-5057.

What are focus groups?, when does this technique arise?, which are their theoretical foundations?, how is this technique carried out?, what is their usefulness in medical education? These are the questions that guide the present paper, whose purpose is to offer an overview of the focus groups technique. This method has demonstrated to be a useful qualitative investigation tool for medical education research, because it is the source of enormous wealth in information, by its sensitivity to investigate knowledge, norms and values of certain groups.

Keywords : Focus groups; qualitative epistemology; medical education; Mexico.
