Abstract

NINO CONTRERAS, Lya Margarita  and  SANDEZ PEREZ, Agustín. Making the invisible visible: gender inequality at the Autonomous University of Baja California (2017). Intersticios sociales [online]. 2020, n.20, pp.159-192.  Epub Nov 20, 2020. ISSN 2007-4964.

We present the results of the diagnosis: “Gender equity at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), 2017”. Based on procedures based on probabilistic sampling, three study universes were formed: academic, managerial/administrative staff and male and female university students. We find that gender inequality in the UABC is not monolithic among the different groups studied and that gender discrimination is not visible in the institution. The groups that least perceive gender discrimination in the institution are female students with 83.7 %, and the group of women with managerial/administrative positions in 82.8 %, followed by academic women with 69.9 %. We also identify family/work reconciliation problems in academics, affecting their performance; and of family/school reconciliation in students for childcare, affecting their grades, among other aspects.

Keywords : mainstreaming; gender equality; gender violence; discrimination.
