Abstract

GARCIA BUSTAMANTE, Rocío  and  GRACIA, María Amalia. Nodes, actors and discourses in the generation of local alimentary alternatives in Quintana Roo and Yucatán, Mexico, 2000-2016. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2019, n.17, pp.175-202. ISSN 2007-4964.

In the face of food vulnerability and the advance of private capital in the agro-alimentary sector, several actors in Mexican civil society have been building initiatives for the production, distribution and local consumption of food in areas both urban and rural. By adopting a qualitative methodology, we were able to identify and characterize projects of this kind in the states of Quintana Roo and Yucatan, and to recognize the social actors, discourses and linking processes involved. The study underscores the importance of both material (food, seeds) and symbolic exchanges (discourses, knowledge). The analysis of results reveals the construction of food nodes whose importance as social experiences enables the conformation of alimentary, economic, environmental, social and political alternatives at the local level.

Keywords : social actors; nodes; discourses; food alternatives; local markets; seeds.
