Abstract
VARGAS SALOMON, Rodrigo. Reflexiones teórico-metodológicas sobre el estudio de la identidad, a partir de las aportaciones de tres sociólogos clásicos: Marx, Durkheim y Weber. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2014, n.8, pp.1-25. ISSN 2007-4964.
Identity as an study object has been integrated relatively recent to the field of social sciences as a strategic category which attempt to analyze and explain various social and cultural phenomena, by incorporating theoretical and methodological principles from diverse disciplines, among which psychology, anthropology, history, and sociology stand out, so study of identity is generally conducted from a multi and interdisciplinary approach. However, it remains unclear what the late emergence of studies on Identity was due, and why it did not represent a topic of interest for three of the most renowned social scientists, now considered classics: Marx, Durkheim and Weber. This paper addresses this dilemma, but above all, it pretends to highlight how the absence of the study of Identity in the classic authors was linked to their sociohistorical circumstances, and to the appearance and particularly gradual development of the field of social sciences. It also raises the need to recognize that it was the theoretical and methodological contributions of these authors that opened the possibility to the construction and approach of study objects such as Identity, setting the standard for further development of the main approaches and proposals that have been generated on the study of that concept.
