In 1944 the Sociedad Botánica de México (Botanical Society of Mexico) launched a scientific journal with the aim of disseminating the botanical research conducted in Mexico; at that time the journal bore the very short title of Boletín. Through the decades that followed this journal has undergone a series of changes, including the title (it took the title Boletín de la Sociedad Botánica de México), format and content. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the new title of the journal, Botanical Sciences, and additional changes whose objective is to consolidate its prime role in the Mexican scientific arena and the international level acquired by this journal, both of which are characteristics that reflect the growth and maturity of the academic and professional organization responsible for its publication.
