Abstract

SALINAS-DE LEON, F. et al. Ultrasound-assisted oil extraction from Ricinus communis L. seed. Revista bio ciencias [online]. 2019, vol.6, e433.  Epub Oct 02, 2020. ISSN 2007-3380.  https://doi.org/10.15741/revbio.06.e433.

The aimed of this work was to determine the optimal conditions for oil extraction of Ricinus communis L. seed by means of ultrasound. The effect of 3 factors over oil yield extraction were evaluated: 1) seed pretreatment 2) ultrasound time and 3) solvent mixture ratio compared to conventional Soxhlet extraction. The optimal conditions for oil extraction were obtained with a pretreatment that consisted in washing and drying of the seed, with a 2.5 h exposure to ultrasound in a mixture of hexane/isopropanol solvents (1:1 v/v). The extraction yield was 73.5% with an extraction rate of 1.8 g.h-1.

Keywords : Ricinus communis; seed; Oil; ultrasound.
