Abstract

PLANAS-COLL, Jordi  and  ENCISO-AVILA, Isabel-María. Students that work: is there a professional value to working when studying?. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.12, pp.23-38. ISSN 2007-2872.

The fact that some university students work during their studies may not be new, but this phenomenon seems to be growing cases such as the Universidad de Guadalajara (Mexico), where they make up the majority in the latest courses. As well as the quantity of students that work, in this text we approach the value of work during university studies from the point of view of acquiring jobs kills and the professionalization of graduates, as well as its effects on the quality of their work placements. We realized that working when studying cannot be said to be always an inconvenience for the training and work placement of graduates; rather, it can even facilitate a more successful work placement than for graduates that only studied. This also makes us consider that the achievements of these students in their work placement cannot be attributed exclusively to their studies, but also to the learning they had while working.

Keywords : job skills; employability; work; university students.
