Abstract

RAMOS-VILLALOBOS, Roxana-Guadalupe. Playbills: Documentary source of great significance for mexican dance studies. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.7, pp.58-68. ISSN 2007-2872.

Broadly speaking this article shows the historical process of playbills associated to dancing, how they arose and how they have been used. Based on the study of five playbills produced between 1930 and 1945 by the first public dance school, it points out the information they include, similarities and differences, and a comparison is made between how the public uses them and their importance as a documentary source for the study of scenic arts in general, and the history of dance education in particular. Finally, it indicates some of the lines of investigation that can be approached by consulting the playbills and it emphasizes the need to preserve, protect and systematize them.

Keywords : history of education; art education; dance; documentary source.
