Abstract

OSORIO-MADRID, Raúl. Educational research in Mexico: between a semi-profession and a non-consolidated practice. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.6, pp.100-116. ISSN 2007-2872.

With data from a survey applied to teachers in higher education institutions in Mexico, we show that the group has not managed to gather the features indicated as necessary by literature for conforming a profession, which justifies labeling the academic occupation a "semi-profession". One of these unfulfilled features is the insufficient authorization to do research, which has prevented academics from overcoming lags that currently appear in educational research in Mexico and makes it remain a non-consolidated practice.

Keywords : educational research; education professionals; Mexico.
