Abstract

VINCENT, Nidia. Artivism with humor en Las miserables de Las Reinas Chulas. Valenciana [online]. 2022, vol.15, n.30, pp.253-282.  Epub Sep 29, 2022. ISSN 2007-2538.  https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v15i30.658.

This article is an approach to some ideas, construction and humorous resources in Las Reinas Chulas’ play Las miserables (2016), in order to recognize cabaret and humor as resources of an artivism that can generate cultural, political or social changes. This company is an obligatory reference to understand and value contemporary Mexican cabaret-theater, which has been characterized, since its origins in the 1980s, by its creative criticism and commitment to feminism and the LGTB+ community. Using the French Revolution as context, the play refers to women’s rights, sexual diversity and gender violence. It’s timely release in 2016 coincided with the elaboration of the actual Constitution of Mexico City.

Keywords : Mexican theater; Cabaret; Artivism; Feminism; Las Reinas Chulas.
