Abstract

VILLEGAS SALAS, Lilia Irlanda. Who's loved in Beloved?. Valenciana [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.12, pp.99-111. ISSN 2007-2538.

In this essay the literary biblical substratum of Beloved (1987), by Toni Morrison, present even from the very paratextual design is analized. This analysis allows the proposal of new historical and contemporary interpretations in regards to the position of Afro-Americans within American culture. Through a close reading and hermeneutics of this novel, the literary treatment of slavery in the United States is given a new significance, underlying some ethical crises that imply the reconfiguration of communities.

Keywords : 20th century; American Literature; Toni Morrison; Slave narrative; Biblical literature influence; Hermeneutics.
