This article analyses some short stories by Francisco Tario, published in La noche and Una violeta de más applying the esthetics of cruelty. The similitude between the proceedings of the Mexican writer and Artaud’s theater of cruelty are shown in the article. Nevertheless, in Artaud cruel acting has a mystical level where cruelty signifies life’s plenitude. Tario, on the other hand, sees an aspect of liberation in cruelty that reveals our own insignificance.
