Abstract

DIAZ FUENTES, Daniela Andrea. A Simplified Method to Assess Seismic Risk and Prioritize the Care of Immovable Cultural Heritage: Chile as a Case Study. Intervención (Méx. DF) [online]. 2017, vol.8, n.15, pp.46-62. ISSN 2007-249X.

Nowadays there is a great need for the generation of integral risk management plans to preserve and protect immovable cultural heritage in areas extremely prone to natural disasters, such as the Circum-Pacific belt or Ring of Fire. This RESEARCH initially presents a risk evaluation procedure based on the implementation of three tools: cultural-value prioritization, evaluation/mapping of threats, and seismic vulnerability assessment; subsequently, it shows the application of this method to six case studies: old church paths of stone masonry and adobe in Chile.

Keywords : risk assessment; vulnerability; threats; cultural value; religious architecture.
