Abstract
OREA MAGANA, Haydée; BUITRAGO SANDOVAL, Gilberto and GONZALEZ CORREA, Olga Lucía. Recientes intervenciones en Bonampak: Hacia una nueva lectura de los murales en el Templo de las Pinturas. Intervención (Méx. DF) [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.3, pp.58-65. ISSN 2007-249X.
In 2009, the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) initiated a conservation project in the Maya archaeological site of Bonampak, which is located in the Lacandon Forest of Chiapas, Mexico. This project aimed at repairing the alterations produced in its monuments by regional seismic activity. In these circumstances, the presentation of the mural paintings of Temple 1 was analyzed and the specialists decided to make interventions to improve the reading of its very confused pictorial programme. Between August and December 2010, the mural paintings in the third room of Temple 1 were cleaned, revealing new figures as well as obscured designs; hence, a new reading of the pictorial works appeared. Analyzing this work, this article proposes to continue the restoration of all pictoric surfaces of the temple.
