Abstract
HERNANDEZ-ANDRADE, Juan Antonio and MARTINEZ-MARTINEZ, Sergio Ignacio. Flood routing on a reservoir: Hydrologic or hydraulic?. Tecnol. cienc. agua [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.6, pp.147-177. Epub May 15, 2020. ISSN 2007-2422. https://doi.org/10.24850/j-tyca-2019-06-06.
The study of flood routing in a reservoir is a subject of great interest for the civil engineer, because it is necessary to know the efficiency of the hydraulic work for the purpose that was built. In addition, it must be known that the design of the dam and its exceedance spillway are adequate at the time of an atypical avenue that may cause ruptures or collapses of the dam, leading to human and economic losses. Therefore, the engineer and the researcher will use models they know to solve the passing of wave floods by the reservoir, which require a certain amount of information, with a certain quality, as well as knowledge of the subject and of computational tools that facilitate the calculation of this type of analysis. This work exposes the theoretical and numerical bases for simulating the passage of a flood wave through a reservoir, using a hydrological method and a hydraulic method, as well as solving various cases of study, comparing the values obtained by each of them. Finally, the conditions are established for when a hydrological model is appropriate or when a hydraulic model is necessary, as well as the advantages and disadvantages involved in using each of these models.
