Abstract

SANTOS-GREGORASCHUK, Jorge de los  and  HERNANDEZ-GARCIA, Guillermo. Numerical modeling of an aquifer in two representations schematically: Raigon, Uruguay. Tecnol. cienc. agua [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.4, pp.151-158. ISSN 2007-2422.

The Raigon Aquifer System (RAS) contains fluvial sediments and has both free and confined sectors. Located in southern Uruguay, its area measures 1800 km2 and its demand is high. It has been the subject of several studies since 1990, and the first digital model to represent it was developed in 1999. This model divided the region into four independent sectors with constant head boundary conditions. The results presented herein compare two portions of the study area and show changes in boundary conditions to a steady-state. The first model was based on constant head boundaries while the boundaries for the second -now internal singularities- were represented by rivers interconnected with the aquifer system. The results show great similarity in the behavior of water levels, with similar distributions for recharge areas and hydraulic conductivity-critical parameters for the fit between the observed and calculated values of the decision variable.

Keywords : Raigón aquifer system; numerical simulation; water resources management.
